Audio Issues - Windows Audio settings

Are your Windows Audio Settings Correct?

Initial Checks

As an initial troubleshooting step, it is always good to check that there are no issues with the USB Headset hardware:

  • Check USB Headset is seated correctly in the Port
  • Try USB Headset in another free Port
  • Check Audio from other sources works

For Example click the Volume button to hear Windows chime back. If it doesn’t this may point to an issue with the Headset.

Once hardware checks have been complete, we need to confirm that Windows recognises the headset device and also that it is using the correct Output/Input Devices.

Check #1 - Playback Device

  • Click Speakers Icon on the taskbar
  • Select the ^ arrow next to the listed device
  • Check that audio is playing to the audio device you prefer, such as a speaker or headphones.

Check #2 - Sound Settings

  1. Right-click the Speakers icon on the taskbar, and then select Open Volume mixer.

  2. You’ll see a set of volume controls for devices. Make sure none of them are muted. If any of them are muted, you’ll see a red circle with a line through it next to the volume control. In that case, select the volume control to unmute.

  3. Check device properties to make sure that devices have not been disabled by mistake.

Select Start > Settings > System > Sound

  4. Select audio device, and then select Device properties. Be sure to select Device properties for both the output and input devices.

  5. Make sure the Disable check box is cleared for the output and input devices.
